The
word ‘Islam’ has existed in history for over fourteen centuries of human
history, it is considered both as a religion and a civilization (Nasr, 2003). It
is a religion that has an estimated following of 1.6 billion people around the
world (Pew Research Center, 2011). Islam began in Arabia in the 7th
century through the prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), Muslims believe that
Allah (God) sent the prophet Muhammad to convey His (Allah) final message which
was first conveyed by the prophet Adam (Peace be upon him).

The
message of Islam is considered to be the final link of prophecy that started
with the prophet Adam (Peace be upon him) and continued on to the long line of
prophets including Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Solomon, David, Jesus and many more.
This message that Islam conveyed then and still does so now is the acceptance
of Allah (God) as the One and Only Supreme Deity, and that all of creation submits
to Him Alone, this message is encompassed in the one world ‘Islam’ which simply
means ‘surrender to the Will of the One God’.
